Just a short note concerning Richo’s comment (15/5) on the programming of major jumps races at Warrnambool.
Following Richo’s interview with Shane Templeton two weeks earlier, Richo agreed with him that these should be run at Warrnambool in late July or early August.
Having lived within two miles of the Warrnambool racecourse for all of my 66 years and having not missed a Grand Annual since 1947 I would like to point out that in most years it is almost impossible to walk up Brierly paddock in July-August, let alone race on it, because it is so wet.
My brother Frank and I raced horses, mainly jumpers, from 1962 until 2002, when these new playschool obstacles were introduced.
We were lucky enough to win many jumps races from Moonee Valley to South Australia including the 1989 Grand Annual Steeplechase with Dunroe.
