Despite having backed the consistent Cranbourne mare Avienus at Caulfield on August 28, a part of me was glad to see her get beaten in a photo finish. It may have cost me a decent collect, but with Glen Boss in the saddle and not regular rider Kane Bradley, I was pleased with the nose defeat and hopeful that now Bradley may get another crack at the ride.
Having ridden Avienus to all four of her wins, including a couple of pearler rides — one of which was at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day last year — Bradley has not been aboard at either of the mare’s runs this time in.
Not sure why that is the case, because although he is not a household name, Bradley does a good job when given the opportunity and has never ridden a bad race on Avienus. Hopefully the connections will see fit to give Bradley another go.
