Midweek Hussler

Back in spring, Ross McDonald’s constant comparison of Weekend Hussler to proven weight-for-age champions like Kingston Town and Manikato was ridiculous.

Further, any suggestion of Apache Cat "dodging the Hussler" was totally inappropriate.

Apache won five open-class Group 1s in a row (not restricted three-year-old races). The Hussler could’ve nominated for these races.

They subsequently met and Apache trounced him. (Eurell let the horse do the talking.)

But his latest claim that the Hussler would have won the King’s Stand Stakes, due to his superior form to Scenic Blast as a three-year-old, takes the cake. We all know three-year-old form doesn’t always translate to four-year-old form and older.

Take the hype out of it and look at the reality.

He was a great three-year-old, but his four-year-old wins were not impressive.

They were in slow time, by unimpressive margins, against horses racing over unsuitable distances (Pompeii Ruler excepted).

"He would’ve won the King’s Stand" … please, Ross, give me a break. Take a lesson from Eurell and let the horse do the talking.
