It is not usual for Australia to farewell its retiring champion mares. In recent times Makybe Diva, Gold Edition, Miss Andretti, Miss Finland, Samantha Miss and Typhoon Tracy have all left the racing stage without a curtain call.

Indeed, 65 years have passed since Australia’s wartime heroine, Tranquil Star, did a slow lap of honour before the Caulfield Cup.

Now Hot Danish is retiring.

Seven years old, she has spent her racing life giving pleasure and profit to racegoers everywhere. Let us give her one more time on the track, this time to say goodbye.

And when Black Caviar, the new queen of racing, retires may she be given the same privilege.
