Horse comes first

I’m sure that I am one of many readers to dispute the comments made by Spero from Manly West (9/4) regarding scratchings at the stalls.

A race should be officiated in exactly the same way whether it’s a million-dollar Group 1 or a $5 maiden.

We should never lose sight that the horse’s interest should be the primary concern at all times — even if it is a hopeless nag.

The industry should always err on the side of caution with no regard at all for any potential financial implications for the owner, trainer, jockey or punter.

Time to take the blinkers off.
