The Newcastle Jockey Club has a classy and outstanding venue. Yet it really only seems to have one major meeting per year — the Newmarket.
During the rest of the year, it seems to be able to manage only $14,000 races. Surely it can up the ante to $20,000 and have many more and larger events at its beautiful racecourse at Broadmeadow.
True-blue Novocastrians love a good old punt — so come on, start ramping it up! Maybe Nathan Tinkler could bring the Patinack Farm stable to Newie and we could have the Tinkler Gold Cup or the Patinack Plate.
He’s on such a roll after saving the Knights, maybe he could be the one to breathe new life into the NJC.
