With Caulfield Cup weights now out, doubles charts are available. How do bookmakers get away with halving the chart odds for one horse to win both cups? It is neither logical nor justified. You could argue that, as the winner of the Caulfield Cup will most likely get a penalty, the odds should be extended on that horse winning the Melbourne Cup.

This argument is no more ridiculous than bookies claiming that they need to cover themselves from being hard hit by a dual winner.
