It was very disappointing to hear in December that Radio Sport 927 had dispensed with Brian Markovic’s services.
Brian has been a great race caller with the station for many years, and I was of the opinion that he was calling better than ever.
He is highly respected in racing circles, especially with the main participants — owners, trainers, and jockeys. At all times at the track, Brian was very approachable and would stand and talk whenever someone wanted to say hello or whatever.
I hear that the station is cutting back on expenditure, but to say that Brian is unlucky is a gross understatement. He has been a credit to his profession and racing generally.
Thoroughbred racing cannot afford to lose people of the calibre of Brian Markovic. It is hoped that Racing Vicroria or some other part of this great industry offers a position to keep Brian in racing, something he has been involved in all his life.
