Peerless

 

I agree with Jack Ruxton (4/2) that Crisp should be regarded as Australia’s greatest jumper.

I was working in the UK during Crisp’s career over there.

While I didn’t see Mosstrooper and I’m sure he must have been an awsome chaser, Crisp’s run in the Grand National carrying a weight which is no longer allowed was nothing short of unbelievable.It is still described as the greatest jumping exhibition ever seen at Aintree.

He was given huge weights from the moment he arrived and his first win, by a huge margin at Wincanton, was superb. He also had a great win, I recall, at Cheltenham over the Gold Cup carnival.

That was a long time ago (early 1970s) and I haven’t seen a horse over the jumps that has come close to him since.
