Gobsmacked

I have been involved in the racing industry all my working life, and I was gobsmacked to see the protest by Nash Rawiller (Spirit Song) against Michael Guthrie (Lady Lynette) upheld.

I can’t remember a protest being upheld after an objection so far out (1200m mark). In my opinion and that of many others, including the three presenters on the TVN program on Friday night, it would be thrown out.

The runner-up may not have been inconvenienced by being put where she was by Lady Lynette, but may even have been advantaged.

There have been some shockers upheld in the last few months, the victims including He’s Remarkable in Perth, Manawanui in the Hobartville and now Lady Lynette.

You would hardly see a protest upheld in times gone by unless the interference was very blatant.

It seems to me that some stewards have become trigger-happy, which is a real worry as we may see a lot more protests entered.
