No sympathy

Richard Callander (19/5) is talking absolute guff about the need to ban margin betting. Any fool who does his dough on such an idiotic bet type has only himself to blame and should expect no sympathy whatsoever.

Moreover, anyone who perceives corruption in margin betting is a moron. Corruption, to be worthwhile, would require substantial bets to be placed — which the bookies would never take on a "novelty" like this. As Richie well knows.

Peter Moody should just keep doing what he’s doing and not worry about what some peanut blogger might think.

Richie is right, however, when he calls on major sporting bodies to employ people who have some idea about punting.

Clearly the AFL hasn’t got one, having legislated to cap dividends on the first goalkicker at $41.

There are 44 blokes in a football match. If they were all at $41, the market would be 107 percent. With the first dozen favourites at $5-$20 … you get the picture.

If the AFL is so worried about the first goalkicker, it should just ban the bet type outright. The situation as it stands is a licence for the bookmakers to fleece the gullible and the mathematically challenged. It’s an insult to punters.
