Mad as hell

I would like to tell of my frustation and annoyance with the television coverage of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

I know this has been done to death but the camel’s back was finally broken on Oaks say.

I had been quite amazed on Derby day as Channel Seven showed the mounting yard and a substantial amount of the coverage was actually about horse racing.

I thought they may have finally got the message from the people who follow and support horse racing.

Roll on to Melbourne Cup day and Seven was back to its old habits. The Melbourne Cup was virtually the only race with mounting-yard coverage.

We had to sit through fashion shows and no-name celebrities talking about anything bar racing.

On Oaks day, the Oaks was covered properly but hardly any other race.

The coverage concluded at 5.30pm so Seven could show its flagship program Deal or No Deal. The last race was scheduled for 5.50pm.

The thing that annoys me the most is that I have to pay to have Foxtel and extra to have TVN. WilI I get reimbursed for not getting my full money’s worth on the TVN coverage? I think not.

I hope that something can be done soon in regards to the Flemington carnival’s TV coverage. Every other carnival seems to work okay.

Maybe the VRC needs to get off its high horse and start treating the people who support horse racing week in, week out, with more respect.
