More like a banquet
For years I’ve been hearing about how wonderful the picnic races in Victoria are. I’ve always meant to check it out, and finally made it to Balnarring for Saturday December 8.
Wow. What a day. Good company, great crowd, competitive racing. Throw in a vibrant betting ring, the likes of which you rarely find at a city track these days, and you’ve got yourself the perfect quaddie.
Congratulations to the Balnarring Picnic Racing Club for reminding me why I love the sport of racing. With all the negatives for the sport in 2012 (because it’s Christmas and a time for goodwill etc, I’ll save further constructive criticism until next year), it’s good to know that someone out there is doing things right.
On a side note, what has happened to Ridiculous Richo? A once entertaining column, detailing trips to faraway country tracks with Mrs Richo and the kids or outlining what a "rig" is, seems to have been replaced with a series of mind-numbing Q&A-type articles. They’re kinda like a vanilla thickshake — sure, it tastes okay, but it’s not chocolate!
So please WP, bring back the chocolate thickshake! In this ever-so-serious world that we live in, a serve of Ridiculous Richo now and then is required.
