The January 19 Winning Post gave opposing views on the value of the World Thoroughbred Ratings (WTR). These ratings are also known as the International Classifications.
For chief Victorian handicapper and Australia’s representative on the WTR commitee, Greg Carpenter, the ratings confirmed Black Caviar as "the greatest sprinter and the greatest female equine athlete world racing has seen in the modern era".
John Wathen-Berry in his international report did not share Carpenter’s enthusiasm for the ratings.
He concluded his reportby stating his opinion that "these figures are not worth the paper on which they are written".
I do not know which is the better opinion, but Carpenter must surely take the points for hyperbole.
