Outside chance
Considering the complaints heard over the years regarding track bias at other courses, I am amazed nobody has mentioned the bias in jumps races at Sandown since the jumps have been placed on the outside of the course proper.
In any jumps race on a track rated worse than slow 6, the advantage to horses hugging the grandstand rail during the run home is enormous and surely by now the riders, trainers and stewards know it.
When experienced riders keep their mounts in the slop, while less fancied ones use the fast lane to beat them, surely one is entitled to wonder why.
It seems certain the Grand Nationals will be run on a wet track and it will be interesting to see what happens.
If there are only two chances jumping the last, I hope I’ll have backed the one on the grandstand side.
