Defeat no surprise
I do believe that John Singleton is out of line with his thinking over the defeat of More Joyous. The facts of the matter are that we have a six-year-old mare racing against a three-year-old colt. Tommy Smith said that a good colt will always beat a good filly.
My tips for the All Aged Stakes were All Too Hard to beat More Joyous, Epaulette and Rain Affair. I came to this conclusion because I have always stuck with Tommy where the colt has the weight advantage, in this case half a kilo.
I did not think that More Joyous giving All Too Hard half a kilo could beat him at Randwick. If the race had been at say Doomben I may have gone the other way.
I have always admired Gai for what she has done for the racing industry and I do feel that Singo owes her an apology.
Tom Waterhouse is a bookie and if I were the bookie laying on the race I would have laid her. That is his business. Singo needs to smell the roses for a while as he does not do the industry any good carrying on as he has in this instance.
