What a mighty race between Atlantic Jewel and It’s a Dundeel. Kav is to be congratulated for testing out his star.
How exciting now to see if she can stalk the Kiwi Champ in the Cox Plate.
I think she can and if so, she wins.
I always thought Black Caviar would have won the Cox Plate but the connections chose a sprint race in England. Sure she won the sprint but had she contested the Cox Plate and won, now we could all accept her as a champion.
As it is she will just be remembered like Todman and Vain, as a great sprinter.
Through time there is a list of champs we all respect and generally agree on but none are sprinters. There are great sprimters, great milers (including Anonyme, my all-time hero) and champions.
The connections of Black Caviar had their opportunity to seek champioship status but declined.
I’m sure that by this time next year both Atlantic Jewel and It’s a Dundeel will take their rightful place amongst the champions — those horses that prove exceptional at 2000 metres and beyond.
