Letter of the Week

That's more like it

May I congratulate G. Boss on winning another Group 1 (I heard someone say his 86th) on Rebel Dane.

In view of the recent controversy, I believe he also earns congratulations for the lack of exhibitionism as he went past the post.

I know I have written published letters, as have others, extremely critical of his past dangerous antics. But at no time have I been critical of his ability as a jockey, and I am sure he is destined to win several premierships, a minimum of 100 Group 1s, and be inducted to the Hall of Fame.

I am sure my letters, and those of other contributors/readers, would be like water off a duck’s back to G. Boss.

However, I would think the one that would have really stung was the article by Roy Higgins (28/9).

Higgins was undoubtedly one of the best this country and possibly the world has ever seen. To be criticised by such an esteemed peer would, I believe, have really been a jolt to Boss.

I was also gratified to listen to Boss’s rather humble after-race interview. When the interviewer bought up the subject of his past extroverted celebrations, Boss cut him short and said words to the effect that it was yesterday and is all behind him now.

I hope so, and I wish G. Boss all the best.
