Once again, a spectacular Melbourne Cup. Congratulations to all involved, and to the winners. Very sad about Admire Rakti and Araldo.
Unfortunately, certain high-profile individuals have been putting down the Melbourne Cup because of the foreign horses.
They don’t want foreign horses to compete because they believe the race should only be for Australian and some New Zealand horses.
Gerry Harvey’s comments on TV were particularly poor, displaying total negativity about today’s high-profile, high-quality, and internationally recognised Melbourne Cup event.
The Melbourne Cup has improved significantly over the decades.
We should be proud to see top-class horses coming to Australia and winning our races. If it means we have to get better horses to compete with the internationals, then so be it. Racing must move with the times.
Perhaps Gerry Harvey and others who are whingeing also need to move with the times.
