The extra mile
Shortly after watching race five at Moonee Valley on Saturday November 29 I wandered out the back to the area behind the grandstand and just happened to see jockey Sally Wynne running past me towards the car park.
I recognised it was Sally as she was still in full riding gear (including silks) and was lugging her riding bag, having just jumped off Sensational Report.
A quick look through my race book revealed she had a ride in the last race at Yarra Valley in just over an hour’s time.
Sally deserves credit for going to this effort to ensure she honoured her commitments to the owners and trainers of both horses.
Furthermore, I am certain that she would not be the only Victorian jockey who would be prepared to go to these lengths to honour a ride.
As an industry we should acknowledge the efforts and sacrifices of all jockeys who make these efforts on a day-to-day basis.
