My observation is fewer topweights win handicaps since the new ratings systems replaced the old class system. Does anyone have the numbers/percentages?
Restricted-class horses seem able to win the higher-rated races on the minimum weight but can’t seem to win the lower-rated races as topweight.
I feel half a kilo per ratings point is too much, and a third of a kilo per point would be fairer.
I don’t know if it is possible — much less whether anyone could be bothered — to change the weights system.
Until then I suppose, regardless of grade, I’ll just have to keep backing the bottomweights and steering clear of the topweights.
