Dealbreaker
I’ve followed the Sky/TVN debate in these pages for several weeks and found Paul Connors’s contribution to be food for thought. His thesis is basically that we should, Dr Strangelove style, stop worrying and learn to love Sky Thoroughbred Brekky Central.
Paul is correct when he says Sky has only hired from the TVN roster those presenters (Brent Zerafa and Caroline Searcy) who have a solid grasp of the English language.
On the other hand, Sky doesn’t seem to apply such stringent criteria to its existin’ staff, judgin’ by how well the horses were paradin’ up at Doomben last Satdy.
Paul’s letter reminded me of the many little things that used to annoy me about TVN. The self-congratulatory braying, backslapping and in-jokes of Get On. Bruce Clark’s strange, drawn-out method of speech. David “He can win the ra-aaace” Gately. The constant skiting about winning tips and market movers. The complete absence of apology for losing tips and market movers (Terry Bailey and Shane Templeton honourable exceptions).
But even with all that, I’ve got to come down in the pro-TVN camp.
Because the bottom line, when all’s said and done, is that there’s just no excuse for Richard Freedman.
