Telling it like it is
Kudos to Ken Callander for standing up for his principles and resigning from the Daily Telegraph because of alleged editorial interference.
Said Kenny: “I resigned on a matter of principle. I didn’t believe that I had editorial freedom in items regarding Racing NSW, hence it was totally against my ethics to criticise others in the industry but not criticise the head body.”
It’s a sad state of affairs when a newspaper is perceived to be nothing more than a propaganda machine for Racing NSW.
Like anyone in the game, Racing NSW is not above criticism (or commendation), and at least Kenny always tried to tell it as he saw it.
Here’s hoping Richie can carry the baton and we’re not always left reading about how wonderful racing in NSW is and how successful it is, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
