Crumbs

“Well, who would notice?” the Freedmans might have thought, sneaking the Fastnet Rock mare Arnina, off to Gunbower for an “easy kill”, denying nine battlers the chance to win a $10,000 maiden with horses that had raced 111 times for just 17 minors.
It sickens me to see these gluttonous big stables licking up the crumbs at community race meetings.
Arnina herself had had 11 tries for just two thirds and it seems the trip north was intended either to help sell the horse on, to afford her some value as a broodmare or perhaps to give her some confidence for a small race closer to Melbourne.
Whatever the reason I am appalled. Arnina won by 10 lengths! Teebox, the six-year-old runner-up, remains a 23-start maiden and might never get another chance.
Racing Victoria has to put some kind of cap on these meetings. Stables that have won prizemoney in the region of say $250,000 in a calendar year should simply be told to scavenge elsewhere.
