Positive thoughts
What a great article by Tony Kneebone on the former successful jockey Tony Allan and his desire to get back in the raceday saddle to achieve his dream of riding 1000 winners. I admire Tony for turning his life around and I certainly hope he quickly accomplishes his goal.
On a different note I find it amusing when it is announced to punters that a particular horse will be ridden more forward/back in the field. Often these horses will not be ridden in the manner described and yet the stewards appear to take no action.
A while ago it was reported that a particular horse was to be ridden more “positively”. Really? I understood all horses are supposed to be ridden positively at all times.
A friend of mine was a very successful country trainer and a humourless, gruff bloke.
When we were at the races and a jockey asked, “Any special riding instructions, boss?’’ he always replied: “Yeah, get to the front then improve your position!’
