Letter of the Week

Not rough enough

I started buying Winning Post last year. My mate’s dad put me on to it. Now, although it’s a bit expensive, I must have it every week.
I love reading bits and pieces and enjoy the stories, though the cryptic tip does my head in. Thank God the answer is given the following week. And the letters page is marvellous. All in all the paper is pure entertainment.
Having said that, I have a small complaint re your “roughies” section. This is a terrific concept. I have not seen it in any other paper, and I put $20 the win on each tip over 20/1.
Shorter tips — 10/1, 15/1 — I throw out. I don’t consider them to be roughies. The people who tip these (they know who they are) are as smart as bait. These are value bets.
Several times I have won around $1000 on roughies.
I also have $30 the win on your first tipper’s best bet and value bet in three states. I pick NZ or Perth for a final one, and these are my only bets for the week. (Saturday is for betting and a few drinks.)
I don’t know if I’m ahead but I do very well sometimes. It’s my main interest.
Keep up the good work.
