Pitched in
The weights for the Caulfield Cup are once again marred by this ridiculous compulsory 58kg topweight rule.
While the rule states that the topweight must have at least 58kg, the handicapper seems to think that no horse is to be given more than that. In my opinion the two topweights are in two kilos light, particularly when the minimum weight is so much higher than it used to be.
Of course the owners of Order of St George have indicated that their horse will not run in the Melbourne Cup if he is handicapped at 58 kilos.
I would point out that the Melbourne Cup is the lowest-rated really rich race in the world. If Order of St George’s connections can find a $6 million race of similar standard, they are welcome to run him in that instead.
On another topic, the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes was spoiled by a lot of interference. The rail being out three metres certainly would not have helped.
I am not suggesting that the rail in the true position would have meant that there was no interference. However, for important spring meetings at the Valley, which is so narrow, I think the rail should be in the true.
Finally a note on the TV coverage. The worst part is the graphics — they are too small and indistinct.
