Main thing is to win
Pittsburgh Phil (29/10) and Paul Connors (12/11) appear to enjoy lecturing on the pros and cons of betting early or later.
I am sure the majority of readers who are regular punters would already be savvy to the upside and downside of this.
When best to place a bet is entirely the choice of individual punters who, after ample consideration, decide upon the odds and conditions on offer and which they feel comfortable with. Of course there will always be examples when betting either early or late give the punter an advantage … that is what betting is all about!
Unless your selection is successful then it is an exercise in futility anyway because those cold hard-hearted bookies will not pay you, regardless of when you placed a bet. People often say money doesn’t matter, but it is very difficult to have a bet early or late when you haven’t got any.
I can only presume that Paul and Phil are both extremely successful punters to be so concerned about whether to take early odds or to bet only on race day.
If you smile nicely most bookies will negotiate a little “overs” for you anyway. However, it doesn’t matter how much money you win, you can still only drive one BMW or drink one glass of champagne at any one time.
