Sleeping beauty
Paul Connors, Pittsburgh Phil and others are sharing a lifetime of lessons learned on the punt, suggesting experience makes a better punter.
As they point out, value is the key. No one picks enough winners to be able to afford taking unders. If my selection is paying unders, I don’t bet. There’ll always be another race.
For mine, after value comes something few would even consider — sleep.
My brain needs to be near 100 per cent to punt well. It has to be well rested, but even then it’s only good for a few hours punting (or poker).
If you drink, or are tired, your brain can’t be working at full capacity, so little wonder punting suffers.
If you usually win early, yet often finish behind, you too may need to shorten your punting sessions.
Older punters probably attribute their success to experience, but their regular sleep patterns — not to mention teetotalling in many cases — certainly don’t hurt.
