Upset in the Plate

I was surprised with the results for the Winning Post poll as to who would win a race between six past Cox Plate winning champions over 2040m at Mooney Valley.
I would expect the pace to be a cracker between Sunline and Might and Power, so I went for Northerly to swoop.
I didn’t know which eras whip rules would be allowed, but if anything goes, then Octagonal’s finish would be hard to withstand.
Saintly and Super Impose would be finishing hard, too, and neither would shock.
I’d expect the leaders to wilt a little late.
Something else that surprised me recently was the very short price ($2.20 after $1.50 early) for Back Caviar’s daughter Oscietra on debut.
Someone with a Betfair account and racing breeding history knowledge would’ve laid even Oscietra’s mother at that price on debut!
That said, she led easily for a long way and did impress. Before long, Oscietra will be more than handy.

• The six horses in our imaginary Cox Plate were Might And Power, Sunline, Northerly, Saintly, Octagonal and Super Impose. They “finished” in that order.
