I don’t know which would be more far-fetched — a proposal for a race across the Harbour Bridge or a bloke in a pinstriped suit trying to sell it to me.
In traffic-choked Sydney, shutting down a major artery for travel from one side of the city to the other in aid of a horse race would be a real PR masterstroke.
I realise the synthetic surface would probably end up being the fairest racing surface in Sydney, but maybe fixing the drainage at the city’s premier racetrack should be a higher priority.
Mind you, I suspect the floating of this particular balloon might be less a genuine proposal, more an attempt at wrong-footing those Victorians already worried about The Everest and the hijacking of Winx’s spring program.
In fact I had to check the date on the newspaper I was reading. It was April 15 — I thought it might have been a fortnight earlier.
