A great all-rounder
This month Victorian racing lost one of the unsung heroes of the industry with the passing of Seymour trainer Ray Plant.
Planty was a trainer for many years, only ever having one or two in the stable.
Over the last 40 years his passion was picnic racing and he trained many winners.
He would go to the disperal sales, buy a cheapie and more often than not win races with it.
He had a great eye for the thoroughbred and one year had a strike rate of 38 per cent winners.
Always known for his good humour, he enjoyed a cold glass with his mates and was loyal until the end.
Ray was an all-rounder. He loved picnic racing, but all that came after his love for his family and his boys, Dale and Ashley.
Rest in peace.
