Congratulations to Matthew Hill on his appointment as successor to the great Greg Miles.
I have long been an admirer of Hill’s, from his days calling NSW provincial meetings, and feel the powers that be have made an excellent choice.
For me, a potential nightmare has been averted, as I shuddered when I saw one of the names on the shortlist.
There is a difference between an exciting call and a high-pitched screech as the horses near the finish, making it almost impossible to pick out the names or positions.
It’s the job of the caller to give a calm, measured description of what is unfolding, and Hills fits the bill.
Good luck, Matty. You have big shoes to fill but I’m sure you will succeed.
