Rex Walsh (13/5) laments the loss of the Doomben 10,000 as we knew it.
I, on the other hand, hope it’s Racing Queensland softening us for the sale of Doomben.
A Doomben sale would allow RQ and the BRC to make Eagle Farm a world-class racing centre, with lighting and an inner synthetic racetrack.
I’d also put a harness track inside the synthetic track — greyhounds, too — the facilities could be utilised daily.
Under my plan a future Doomben 10,000 may be for the synthetic specialists, run at Eagle Farm on the new “Doomben” inner synthetic.
No one likes to see historic races or racetracks disappear, but commercial reality almost demands it. Better to be proactive fiscally than cling to an expensive past, no matter how sentimental some of us are for the good old days.
