Fair enough
In response to “Far from fair” (Your Say July 8), it seems that once again my old nemesis Peter Battistella and I do not agree. (Battistella criticised an increase in race fields fees imposed by NSW on Betfair.)
The participants who put racing on are entitled to earn a living and race fields legislation ensures they can.
I concede that the latest hike by Racing NSW officialdom is just an attempt to inject more stake money into races such as The Everest, which I think is a foolhardy concept anyway.
But wagering operators must pay their fair share — to ensure that our participants earn a liveable wage and that our industry remains viable.
It would seem Mr Battistella would prefer the clock be turned back to the bad old days when participants had to survive on the punt, and lived below the poverty line.
In my previous letters to Winning Post, I have challenged Mr Battistella to offer an alternative funding model for the industry. The silence continues to deafen.
