Here to help, not
Once again Pittsburgh Phil (9/9) laments placing a bet early, something he appears obsessed with.
I feel it is time Phil realised that unlike Mother Theresa of Calcutta bookmakers are not charitable institutions and I doubt whether on waking each morning many would say “I wonder how I can be kind to a punter today!”
Good bookmakers set (or make )their books so they will maintain their edge over the punters and like punters they like to come out in front.
Their racedays are busy and complex — following what horses the money is coming for, accepting bets, laying off, tweaking odds etc.
So, Phil, just decide on the most appropriate time for you to bet, the integrity of the betting outlet, and then be satisfied because it is solely your decision. And of course keep in mind the first adage a punter must learn, and that is an odds-on winner is far better than a 100-1 loser.
