Let them stay

One of the reasons that UK and French stayers are so dominant is that their racing authorities have regular races for staying mares.
Both stage distaff Group 1 races over 2400 metres. One features on British Champions day and in France on the famous Arc day.
In Australia, there are no races longer than 2000 metres restricted to mares. It is ridiculous to cater for three-year-old fillies with various Oaks races but not for older mares.
If Australia is really serious in wanting to breed first-class staying horses, then a program of distance mares races co-ordinated by the state authorities would be a great help.
