Now the dust has settled from the Flemington carnival and all us oldies argue about the best performance of the carnival, to me the question is easy — without doubt it was Matthew Hill. His calls were almost faultless.
We talk about pressure on jockeys and trainers — what about the pressure on this man?
We are inclined to take him for granted, as we did Greg Miles, as he calls for the biggest audience of all time on free-to-air and pay TV.
From an old racegoer who has heard race callers since the 1950s, this guy is as good as there has ever been.
