The unforgiven
Despite assurances from various members of the industry’s leadership for literally decades that integrity and associated punter “confidence” are vital, the facts are palpably to the contrary.
The evidence? That rule-breakers are leniently treated and then welcomed back through the sycophantic industry’s media machine as though nothing happened.
Damien Oliver and Jim Cassidy are prime examples of offenders who have ultimately returned to active participation.
Cassidy retires, writes a book and the likes of RSN have him on to promote him and it — outrageous.
I’d be interested in Brian Mayfield-Smith’s views on the Cruising incident at Canterbury all those years ago.
Call them out for what that are — offenders.
Over to the much vaunted integrity teams to actually achieve on the integrity front and possibly rebuild the confidence of this disillusioned punter of 45 years’ experience.
