Keep it positive
Racing.com’s coverage is refreshingly classy, and still improving, but I could do without the occasional unnecessary negativity.
First, absolutely call out track bias if it’s there, but don’t go searching for minefields before the first race. Surely the presumption should be of a fair surface.
Second, there should be no such thing as a “cup of tea” race. if the favourite’s too short to back, point out value place or quinella options.
Third, of course handicappers, especially stayers, “take it in turns winning”. That’s the ratings system working perfectly. Don’t bag the race, try to find the winner.
Fourth, good commentators realise that not every viewer has backed the favourite.
Finally, I’d like to see in-race jockey helmet cameras, and more of Peter Moody.
Nitpicking aside, Victorian and SA racing coverage is in great hands, and way ahead of other jurisdictions.
