A disappointing aspect of last month’s Super Saturday at Flemington was the $200,000 on offer for the Sires’ Produce Stakes. The Sydney version is worth $1 million.
The Victorian race, which has been won by some of the greatest horses ever to race in this country and in recent times by future major Group 1 winners Shamrocker and Jameka, deserves better.
I admit the field this year matched the money on offer but the winner, Not a Single Cent, may well turn out to be Group 1 standard.
