I agree 100% with the letters written by Kevin Arthurson (March 10 and April 7) about the hype that surrounds Winx. A really good horse and a “champion” at home only.
The races she has run in to a great extent have provided mediocre opposition, as was indicated a couple of starts ago when she raced (apart from Prized Icon) against stayers preparing for distance races at the Sydney racing carnival.
Both Winx and Black Caviar had no competition when racing, although to Black Caviar’s credit she did race and win at Royal Ascot.
The only true champion mare in the past few years has been Sunline. When Sunline was racing she raced against champions — like Lonhro, Northerly, Tie The Knot, Defier, Diatribe, Intergaze, Juggler ... and so many more.
Sunline took on the world in Hong Kong and won, then to Dubai where she was so brave against the world’s best.
Apart from Hay List, who can remember what horses Black Caviar beat and the same can be said for Winx ... both great mares but world champions?
