My three cents
The issue of jockeys wanting extra money has probably not been explained correctly to us mere punters.
It must be something more than an addition to the $200 riding fee that now applies.
We all know that jockeys like Bowman, McEvoy, Oliver and Williams are multimillionaires and shouldn’t want more, but the idea of strappers and stablehands receiving a percentage of this new prizemoney structure sits well withthe average punter.
On another hot topic, trainer Wayne Hawkes stated on TV that if NSW were racing for $150,000 and Victoria $120,00, then it would make sense to race in NSW.
Since when is $120,000 — or $100,000 for that matter — poor money?
Finally, will Matt Stewart one day admit that Darren Weir became a top trainer by winning big races with “cheapies” like She’s Archie and Trust in a Gust?
