Having watched the 2019 Kentucky Derby numerous times, I’m stunned that the horse that finished first, Maximum Security, was disqualified.
Maximum Security, which led most of the way on an atrociously wet muddy track, certainly drifted slightly outward when coming round the turn. But ...
1. Should the jockey have been fined or suspended? Perhaps.
2. Should the horse have been relegated to second place? Perhaps.
3. Should the horse have been disqualified? Certainly not.
We’ve seen far worse in Australia without having a disqualification.
