Just in answer to Bill Hecker’s letter on the Roy Higgins/Wylie Dalziel colours (3/10), the Light Fingers colours have been alive and racing through the deeds of the Oregon horses — Oregon Spirit and more recently the top-class mare Oregon’s Day.
Helen Gehrig, daughter of Light Fingers’ owner Wally Broderick, was in our Oregon Seal syndicate and we used the Light Fingers colours on our horses, with Oregon’s Day being the last flag-bearer.
Interestingly one of our horses, Bel Seal, accidentally went around in the Higgins/Dalziel colours one day and went on to win.
Yes, great memories of the bonny mare Light Fingers and the great Roy Higgins.
