Letter of the Week

Rudely interrupted

Last week I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend Bart Cummings’s book launch courtesy of a family friend.

Upon getting there I met young Herald Sun racing journalist Nick Quinn. Quinn then went up to Bart, or Mr Cummings as he respectfully called him, and asked him for a brief chat.

Cummings happily obliged and the two proceeded to chat like old friends. Quinn asked some great questions and Cummings gave him his thoughts on Saintly, So You Think and the derby.

Listening to it was one of the greatest moments of my life and one I will forever cherish. But sadly the intriguing Cummings-Quinn chat was cut short when a radio reporter rudely interrupted Cummings with a serious of stupid questions that made no sense. Her opening question was along the lines of "Will Viewed win if he runs fast throughout, or will he go slow at stages?"

It was extremely disappointing that somebody that knows nothing about racing was quizzing Bart Cummings, especially when young Quinn was doing such a great job.

It would be like an anti-cricket person interviewing Sir Donald Bradman.
