A record Tabcorp turnover on the Melbourne Cup itself, and more than 100,000 paying customers on course for each of the first two days of the 2009 VRC racing carnival!
Racing Victoria is to be congratulated on the superb racing product it offers to the world in early November each year.
Special thanks too to the federal government for the contribution it makes annually to the success of the Melbourne Cup carnival.
A group of unemployed racegoers at Flemington lifted their beer cans to Kevin Rudd for a $500 interest free (punting) loan to each, made available via Centrelink, per courtesy of the taxpayer — testimony to the fact that our government is no spoilsport and that it recognises that our economic recovery is well and truly based on the back of racehorses.
