Youth behaving well
My partner Karen and I love our horse racing. We take each Melbourne Cup week off work and go to various country meetings.
This year we chose Wagga Wagga.
Two reasons decided our choice: one, Karen had never been and, two, I was returning for a dose of nostalgia.
I went to Wagga Wagga 40 years ago with my best mate, Chris Moss.
Chris was northeast Victoria’s best jockey at the time. We went up because Chris had three rides for Ollie Cox. He rode a double and a second. We had a great day.
Returning on Cup day, I remembered the grandstand and mounting yard.
What struck me most, however, were the young people in the crowd.
The young men and women were immaculately dressed and the way they conducted themselves throughout the day was first class.
We need the younger generation to go to the races so our horse racing industry can thrive.
You could put the young people of Wagga Wagga on any racetrack and be assured they would promote our industry in its greatest light.
So well done, you young people of Wagga Wagga. And to their parents, be proud you have created a great asset to your community. We’ll be back.
