Let's break the drought
Let’s hope Australian trainers take a lesson from our horses’ inglorious performance in Hong Kong recently.
Australian-bred sprinters and milers are well performed on the world stage, but they only shine when specifically aimed at overseas targets.
Our horses are not so good that they can turn up as an afterthought and win at major carnivals at the end of taxing Australian campaigns.
Clearly this doesn’t apply to all runners in Hong Kong recently, as several undoubtedly had legitimate excuses.
But, Royal Ascot aside (and our horses have been specifically set for those races), it’s been a long time between drinks for Aussie horses overseas.
Hopefully 2010 will see us put our best foot forward.
