Date with Dato destiny
By Winning Post, August 30, 2015 - 9:03 AM

Spring has officially arrived and there's a cracking weekend of racing to greet it in your Winning Post.

At Moonee Valley the feature is the Group 2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m), where the prize includes exemption from the ballot for this year's Cox Plate.

Among the horses aiming for their Cox Plate ticket will be recent Lawrence Stakes quinella Mourinho and The Cleaner. The Cleaner booked his Cox Plate berth last year by winning the Dato, while Mourinho's connections will be taking no chances after their horse was controversially left out of the Cox Plate field last year.

They'll have plenty of opposition though, including Godolphin import and dual autumn Group 1 winner Contributer, who resumes in the Dato.

Who will get the cash? Tony Kneebone's Dato tip will lead this week's Winning Post.

Elsewhere, Sydney gears up for spring with the Tatt's Club's spring program, led by the Chelmsford Stakes, and Richard Callander will have all the mail.

Our form coverage kicks off on Friday with full form guides for Bendigo and Wyong Cup/Mona Lisa day at Wyong, plus fields, colours and tips for Lismore and Ipswich.

The metro racing this Saturday is at Moonee Valley in Melbourne, Randwick in Sydney, Morphettville in Adelaide, Doomben in Brisbane and Belmont in Perth.

Winning Post carries full-colour liftout guides for all those meetings plus Echuca (Vic/SA/Tas edition), Newcastle NSW editon) and Gold Coast (Queensland edition), as well as fields, tips, ratings and/or colours for other TAB Saturday cards.

On Sunday we've got liftout formguides for four more TAB meetings including Moree Cup day and Sheep Hills Cup day at Warracknabeal plus fields, ratings, tips and colours for a stack more Sunday and Monday programs.

Don't forget Winning Post now carries trackwork reports for all four Melbourne training tracks, all three in Sydney, Morphettville in Adelaide and a general Brisbane report.

Away from the form, we've got news columns from Queensland, NSW, six Victorian districts, SA and Tasmania.

Our readers have their say on page 4, while further back in the book Shane Templeton reminisces, Paul Richards presents his unique take on the sport and Tony Kneebone delivers his lively Snippets column.

Winning Post costs $5 and is available Thursday afternoon in selected Melbourne newsagents, the crack of dawn Friday elsewhere.
